Townsend family papers, 1771-1979.

Account books, letters and letter copy books, bills, receipts, historical writings, journals, photographs, postcards, insurance papers, tax records, minutes, notes, pamphlets, clippings and other papers of members of the Townsend family of Oyster Bay including Samuel Townsend, Solomon Townsend I, Solomon Townsend II, Peter S. Townsend and others. Papers of Solomon Townsend I include an account book, and a letter copy book concerning the iron and shipping business, 1786-1791. Papers of Solomon Tonwsend II include journals of trips from New York to Albany, 1814 and 1821-1822; and bills and receipts related to the "Democratic-Republican" seventh ward committee in New York City, 1834-1839. Peter Townsend papers include notes, transcriptions and writings on family history; clippings on politics and business, 1826-1879, as well as notes, letters, sketches and watercolors of friends, family members, Raynham Hall, and buildings in Nassau, Bahamas.
